Thursday, June 25th, 2009

WELLINGTON have appointed former Yeovil Town striker Warren Patmore as manager.

The 37-year-old replaces Leigh Robinson, who left the Toolstation Premier Division club to become co-manager of Bridgwater Town two weeks ago.

Crediton-based Patmore joins Wellington from Devon and Exeter League side Morchard Bishop, who he has guided to back-to-back promotions in the two years he has been in charge.

Wellington chairman Ken Bird said: “We were extremely impressed by Warren at interview and are delighted to have him on board.

“He is a popular and well-known figure in West Country football and his appointment is very exciting for Wellington AFC.

“We are confident that Warren can build on the successes achieved by Leigh Robinson over the past two seasons and we are looking forward to working with him.”

Wellington return to pre-season training next Thursday at 7.30pm with new players welcome.

In his time with Yeovil, Patmore became the club’s third highest scorer and is something of a legend with supporters.

His other former clubs include Cambridge United, Millwall, Northampton, Woking and Rushden, where he has the distinction of netting their first Football League goal.

He also made seven appearances for the England semi-professional side, netting three goals.

Chairman’s report to annual meeting

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

IT has been another momentous season in for Wellington AFC.

The joy of winning the Toolstation League division one title was soon forgotten as we got down to the task of carrying out a massive ground improvements project.

I am sure many people felt we would not achieve our goal within the specified timeframe but we did and were rewarded with an outstanding season culminating in a seventh place finish in the premier division.

“The fact we have moved forward so rapidly is due to a huge amount of work by a small band of people. This club will be forever in their debt.”

But we are not all about the first team … we should not forget our two other senior sides and particularly the championship winning third team.

And I have been been immensely proud to attend various youth team presentation evenings since the end of the season.

Our youth set-up for both boys and girls is the envy of many clubs and we must thank all those people who contribute towards their success.

Of course, since the end of the season we have lost the services of both first-team manager Leigh Robinson and our vice-chairman Graham Aspin.

Both have played pivotal roles in our recent successes while, in the longer term, Graham has been a magnificent servant to Wellington Afc.

It is also with sadness that I report Nick Bowrah has stepped down as reserve team manager. We should thank him for his work and hope he continues to be involved with the club as a manager in the girls’ section.

Following these announcements, it is crucial we maintain stability across all areas of the club and we are doing everything in our powers to ensure this is the case.

Finally, I’d like to thank everyone who has worked and supported Wellington Football Club over the past 12 months … we should all be proud of this club and what we have achieved.

Chairman – Wellington AFC

Search starts for new boss

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

WELLINGTON are advertising for a new manager following Leigh Robinson’s decision to leave the Toolstation League premier division club.

Robinson announced last week that he was joining Southern League outfit Bridgwater Town as joint manager alongside Craig Laird.

He guided the club to the division one championship in 2007-08 and seventh place in the premier division last season.

Wellington chairman Ken Bird said: “We have held two extremely positive meetings since Leigh’s decision and have received input from a number of quarters including senior players.

“The most important consideration is keeping together a squad, who have performed so magnificently over the past two seasons.

“But we are also looking for someone with the managerial experience and contacts to be able attract new players to the club so that we can build on everything we have achieved under Leigh.”

Anyone wishing to apply for the manager’s job is asked, in the first instance, to ring 07909-828301.

Meanwhile, Mr Bird also confirmed that stalwart Graham Aspin has stepped down as vice-chairman.

“For reasons totally unrelated to Leigh Robinson’s departure, Graham has decided to take a break from the club.

“He has been a wonderful servant to Wellington AFC – both as a player and since his playing career ended – and we would like to place on record our thanks to him for all his work.”

Wellington are holding their annual meeting in the clubhouse next Wednesday, June 17, starting at 8pm.

Committee meets after Robinson quits

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

WELLINGTON boss Leigh Robinson is leaving the club to take up a joint-managerial role at Southern League outfit Bridgwater Town.

Robinson, who was approached about the job on Tuesday, announced his decision last night.

“I have had three fantastic years at Wellington, two of them as manager, and am proud of everything I have achieved.

“It has been an incredibly difficult decision but I’ve always wanted to have a crack at the Southern League and this is my chance.”

Robinson, who will share the manager’s duties with Craig Laird, guided Wellington to the Toolstation League Division One title in 2007-08 and to seventh place in the Premier Division last season.

Wellington chairman Ken Bird said: “We are desperately sorry to lose Leigh but would like to thank him for everything he has achieved here.

“He has played a huge part in getting us where we want to be – now we need to find the right person to build on that.”

Mr Bird added that the club’s management committee would be meeting tonight (Thursday) to discuss the managerial vacancy.
