Richard Henwood’s fine 103 was the basis of this good win for Wellington Sunday XI against Somerset League Division Five side Trull at home on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon when the Red and Blacks won by 5 wickets with a number of overs to spare.
Trull had opted to bat first and made an awful start losing a wicket to the first ball of the game and then been 3-3 as George Hooper (3-13 in six overs) ripped through the visitors and with Sam Murdock supporting well at the other end Wellington were in control.
But slowly Trull grew in stature as T.Spurway and White added 40 for the third wicket, before White dominated to such a degree that he hit 97 classy runs when the next highest score for Trull was their skipper James at number 11 with 10! – he hit the ball cleanly and with power and was in sight of a well deserved ton when Charlie Davies bowled him.
Will Hinchcliffe with 3-23 in five overs of left arm seam dented the Trull middle order and it took Max Capaldi with 2-25 late on and Adrian Lee’s good mid wicket catch to end the Trull innings for 167.
Nicole Sparks bowled her medium pace to good effect and took a good low catch to see the back of T.Spurway.
Richard Henwood and Aks Latifi struck the thickest part of a fifty run opening stand with Latifi making a robust 32 and taking on White who now showed his prowess with the ball taking 2-27 in eight fast overs.
He saw that Wellington were reduced to 59-3, but Richard Henwood and David Derrick steadied things with a stand of 63 for the fourth wicket with Henwood playing shots all round the park, but in particular over the top and he was on his way to a ton that did the job for his side.
Charlie Davies and Max Capaldi sealed the win for Wellington and with it a good five wicket win.
The team has two league matches and one friendly left this season.

Rain robbed Wellington Sunday XI of certain victory at Devon League Division F side Cullompton last weekend when they dominated the game throughout.
Wellington were put into bat in showery conditions, but this did not deter Charlie Davies and Scott Davey who added 72 fine opening wicket runs with knocks of 29 from Davies and 32 from Davey as they both played well to leg, but both were out by the time the score was 74; this brought Aks Latifi and James Bath together and they added a mighty 181 for the third Wellington wicket with Latifi making a maiden Red and Blacks ton with a delightful 104 with six sixes and many other fine shots.
Bath drove straight for a score of 86 and was closing in on a ton when he trapped LBW by Pavia (3-33), Wellington gathered what runs they could by tea and had set Cullompton 300 to win.
That wasn’t going to happen, but when George Hooper and Chris Shapland made the home side 12-6 the game was nearly up for Cullompton as Paul Short’s three catches saw Shapland take 4-6 and with Hooper’s 2-5 Wellington were in total control, but Ashplant with 26 and Scrace with 24no saw that the home side occupied the crease long enough to see the rain fall heavily enough that the game was abandoned as a draw – Aaron Chugg and Robin Davies took the other wickets to fall for Wellington.

Wellington Sunday XI resumed action after a few weeks off while the Club indulged in some off field activities with this fine 73 run win over WEPL Somerset Division side Street at home last weekend.
Wellington batted first and saw Alex Sparks and Aks Latifi scorch away to an opening stand of 116 in 18 overs; although both were dropped once each they blitzed the Street bowling with some excellent cover drives been displayed by both players – the fun was ended when Crees (1-60 in 10 overs) got Latifi to play on for 47.
James Bath punched a couple of fours to the short off side boundary before been caught in the gully; this brought Rob Moysey to the crease and he and Sparks added 36 for Wellington’s third wicket before Sparks was trapped LBW for 80 by J.Linter (1-35 in 10 overs), Moysey had made 28 before having to retire hurt following an issue with the broken finger he suffered earlier in July.
James Dyke with a brisk 14 and Steve Symons with 13no saw Wellington past 200 and runs kept been added to the Red and Blacks total through Charlie Davies and his 21no late on took Wellington to 231-5 at tea.
Wellington snapped up a wicket from the fourth ball of the innings as James Bath pocketed a smart gully catch off of George Hooper (2-51 in 9 overs) and Aaron Chugg with 1-29 in six overs got rid of Street keeper Frost and he bowled better than these figures suggest.
Crees with 32 and Storey with 24 added 61 for Street’s third wicket, but Rob Moysey removed Storey LBW and at 77-5 through Paul Short getting Brown stumped Street were in trouble, although Ward with a patient 17 and J.Linter with a fine 37 kept the Wellington attack at bay whilst adding 51 for the sixth wicket; this was ended when Chris Shapland took 3-16 and had a big hand in ending the Street innings as he bowled J.Linter with a fine delivery and did the same to Ward.
James Dyke took a late wicket too and with six overs to go Wellington had done the job and had an impressive 73 run win to savour.

Wellington Sunday XI recorded a fine friendly win at Weston Super Mare based side Uphill Castle last weekend when they chased a decent enough total down with nine balls to spare as the double header of Sunday matches for 2011 with the WEPL Bristol and Somerset club ended all square with an away win each.
Uphill decided to bat first on a good track and saw Tasker with 30 and Wilcox with 14 get to within one run of a half century opening stand before Ali Bunce got the breakthrough that Wellington desired as Will Hinchcliffe pocketed a low chance at mid wicket.
Sam Murdock with 3-30 got rid of the Uphill middle order including danger man Kersey who had made a hundred at Wellington back in May and at 64-4 Uphill were in a spot of bother, but their skipper A.Llewellyn with 84 and Holt with 28 made things better for them with a fifth wicket stand of 51 and the lower Uphill order got their score to 213-9 at tea with their skipper falling to Adrian Lee, he was joined by Alex Troake and Paul Short in claiming late wickets.
Holt got a wicket for Uphill Castle before Charlie Davies and Max Capaldi settled into a 144 run second wicket stand for Wellington as they dominated the game; mixing well placed nudges and glances for singles with powerful boundary shots saw knocks of 78 and 93no posted.
Davies was caught and bowled by Tasker, but Sam Murdock with 15 and Steve Symons with 10 kept the Wellington run rate ticking over nicely and it fell to Paul Short to win the game with a six; good times for Wellington!

Dreadful weather on the day put paid to any chance of Wellington Sunday XI being able to play at Devon League Division C club Seaton last weekend; heavy rain all day saw no way of getting any play in.
