Don’t miss out …

Crowford hits five

January 14th, 2006

JON Crowford scored an incfedible five goals as Wellington recorded their first win under manager Ian Jackson by thumping Clyst Rovers 6-0 at the Playing Field.

Crowford hit a first half hat-trick and then added two more goals after the break.

And Wellington, who drew 0-0 with Minehead in midweek, added a sixth goal through Mark Hughes.

Wellington Reserves sent down 3-0 at North Tawtom but the third team had an excellent 1-1 draw at Dulverton.

What a comeback!

January 8th, 2006

WELLINGTON came back from the dead to earn a point from a 3-3 draw away to fourth placed Ilfracombe on Saturday, January 7th.

They trailed 3-0 at half-time with two of the goals being scored by their former striker Alexis Piper.

But Wellington staged a magnificent second-half display with goals from John Norman, Jon Crowford and Nick Woon.

Elsewhere, Wellington Reserves drew 1-1 at home to promotion rivals Beer Albion while the thirds had a fine 2-1 cup victory over Sydenham.

Another defeat

December 17th, 2005

WELLINGTON went down to their second successive defeat as they lost 3-1 at home to Cadbury Heath.

The Wellington goal was scored by Nick Woon, who has turned down a move to Chard Town.

On a brighter note, the promotion chasing reserves won 3-0 at Halwell with goals from Terry Coppin (two) and Greg Hammond.

Welly hit for six

December 10th, 2005

Toolstation League division one: Bradford Town 6, Wellington 1

IAN Jackson will certainly never forget his first game in sole charge of Wellington … for all the wrong reasons.

Jackson, who has taken over the reins after co-manager Paul West’s decision to move to Taunton Town, could only stand and watch while his side let him down with some simply woeful defending.

Wellington’s inability to defend set pieces cost them dearly as they conceded three goals each side of the break for their heaviest defeat of the season.

On a brighter note, the reserves recorded a 2-1 home win over Bickleigh in the Devon and Exeter League’s Senior One.

League form on a roll

December 4th, 2005

WELLINGTON continued their fine run of league form with a 3-2 home win over Biddestone on Saturday, December 3rd.

The scorers were Shane Gage, Alexis Piper and Simon Elsley with the visitors scoring twice in the last six minutes.

Both the reserves and third team had their games called off because of waterlogged conditions.

Draw in the fog

November 20th, 2005

WELLINGTON have now lost only once in their last eight league games after they drew 3-3 at fog-bound Westbury.

The Wellington scorers were Jon Crowford, Alexis Piper and Shane Gage.

Elsewhere, Wellington Reserves won 3-2 at home to Exeter Civil Service thanks to goal by Greg Jackson (two) and Richard Tuttill but the third team lost 2-1 to Locomotives.

Nine-man Welly still win!

November 12th, 2005

Toolstation League Division One: Wellington 4, Weston St Johns 2

WELLINGTON had two men sent off as they had to plumb the very depths of their resources to earn a valuable home win over fourth-placed Weston St Johns at the Playing Field last Saturday.

Already forced to field a makeshift side with a catalogue of first-team regulars missing, they then lost John Norman through injury after 30 minutes and had both Shane Gage and Mark Hughes dismissed in the final quarter of the game for second bookable offences.

The Wellington scorers were Nick Woon (two, one penalty), Shane Gage and Nick Bowrah.

Meanwhile, Wellington Reserves drew 1-1 away to second-placed Beer Albion in the Devon and Exeter League’s Senior One with Jack Barnden scoring their goal.

Vase dreams end

October 30th, 2005

FA Vase first round: Wellington 1, Bemerton Heath Harlequins 2

WELLINGTON’S FA Vase dreams were ended by Bemerton Heath from the Wessex League’s top flight at the Playing Field on October 29th.

It was Bemerton who made the breakthrough after 33 minutes as veteran Ian Chalk scored from close range.

Bemerton scored the crucial second goal after 55 minutes as the ball was swung into the box from the left and, when it dropped to Palmer, he made no mistake.

Wellington pulled a ball back in the 63rd minute through a fierce low drive from 25 yards out by Andy Butler.
