Toolstation League Division One: Truro City 6, Wellington 0
WELLINGTON’S hopes of causing another upset in Cornwall on Tuesday night were blown away as they were hit for six by big-spending Truro City. Kevin Evans’ side are one of only three to have avoided league defeat by the FA Vase semi-finalists, having drawn 1-1 at the Playing Field back in September. But on a freezing night, they were no match for a team packed with ex-pros, who have now banged in 120 goals in only 25 league games. Wellington may have hoped Truro might take it easy in view of their big Vase tie onSaturday but they fielded their strongest side and turned on the style. Leading the way were prolific strike partners Stewart Yetton, who was playing for Plymouth Arglye until recently, and Andy Watkins, leading scorer with Toolstation champions Bideford last season. They hit two goals apiece in the first half to seal the points by half-time as Wellington failed to cope with their slick passing, movement and lethal finishing. And, although the visitors, had slightly more of the game after the break, Truro scored two more goals as Yetton completed his hat-trick to take his tally for the season to 55 and sub Glyn Hooper made it six. The scoreline could have been even more emphatic but for a combination of fine goalkeeping from Shaun Locke and the woodwork, which Truro hit three times. To their credit, Wellington – whose squad included three more new signings – never stopped trying and carved out a couple of openings, with sub Sean Anthony bringing a fine save out of Daniel Stevenson . But they could have no complaints about the result and must now put it behind them. At least they have no game this Saturday and so have a break before their next fixture at Clyst Rovers on March 31. Wellington: Locke, Legg, Holland, Manley, Card, Piper, Ingram, Clough, Herrod, Cummins, Woon. Substitutes, Anthony (for Cummins, 45 minutes), Plain (for Card, 45).

Cadbury Heath 0, Wellington 0
WELLINGTON had to dig deep to earn a point at Cadbury Heath and extend their unbeaten run to three games. Manager Kevin Evans was forced into wholesale changes with several key players missing including both first-choice strikers, Nick Woon and Shaun Anthony, who were suspended. And he gave three players their first start – Alexis Piper, who has rejoined the club from premier division Street, Kunie Atiba, who partnered Piper up front, and young midfielder James Clough. But there was only one winner in the game and that was the fierce wind, which howled down the Cadbury Heath slope and made the conditions virtually unplayable. Wellington had the gale at their backs in the first half and, not surprisingly, had more of the play with Atiba failing to score from a good position and also seeing a header cleared off the line. At the other end, defender Tim Legg also produced a goalline clearance while Jason Manley put in a magnificent last-gasp tackle to thwart Wellington old boy Joe Dakwa. The roles were reversed after the break as the visitors were forced into a rearguard action against the wind but the defence turned in an excellent display with Manley outstanding. And keeper Shaun Locke played his part with two fine saves in quick succession to keep the scoreline blank. Both sides went close to breaking the deadlock in the dying minutes as Wellington’s Craig Herrod saw a shot blocked, with sub Cameron Nott’s follow-up well saved, and then Cadbury Heath struck the woodwork from a free-kick. Wellington: Locke, Legg, Holland, Manley, Short, Mawford, Clough, Ingram, Herrod, Atiba, Piper. Substitutes, Nott (used), Bryant (not used).

Biddestone 1, Wellington 2 STRIKER Shaun Anthony’s second successive goal-double earned Wellington three valuable points at Biddestone and allowed them to climb back up into fifth place in the table. Anthony took his tally for the season to a dozen – but shared the limelight with the rest of his team-mates, who turned in a display full of character to recover from the shock of conceding an early goal. They were without leading scorer Nick Woon and central defender Trevor Haslett – both suspended. They were replaced by new signings – central defender Jason Manley, who has rejoined Wellington from Premier Division Chard Town – and young Wiltshire-based striker Mike Gwyer. And there was a third new face on the bench as promising Taunton youngster James Clough came on in the second half to replace black eye victim Andy Butler. Wellington got off to the worst possible start when Biddestone took the lead with a soft goal after only four minutes as Jack Coathupe screwed in a shot off the post. But the visitors reacted well with Gwyer always looking lively up front and wide men Craig Herrod and Craig Mawford also both posing problems. They got back on level terms after 27 minutes when a flowing move ended with Herrod being upended in the box and Anthony made no mistake from the penalty spot. Despite difficult conditions, including a fierce wind blowing down the pitch, Wellington took control of the game with Simon Ingram – skipper in place of Woon – pulling the strings in midfield. And it was Ingram who set up what proved to be the winner seven minutes into the second half, sending Anthony racing down the middle to coolly shoot past keeper Anthony Brown. Biddestone produced three long-range efforts which were all well dealt with by keeper Shaun Lock. And Wellington almost increased their lead seven minutes from time as a cross from the right found Herrod who smacked his shot against the upright. Wellington: Lock, Legg, Holland, Manley, Short, Mawford, Butler, Ingram, Herrod, Anthony, Gwyer. Subs: Clough and Atiba (both used), Markham (not used).

I’ve set up some forums for general chit chat on the site now. Goto www.sportinwellington.co.uk/forum to access them.
You’ll need to be registered on the site and logged in to participate.
There are forums for Cricket, Football, Golf and ‘General’ at the moment. I’ll add the other clubs if required, please contact me if you’d like any added.
There are likely to be other (bigger) changes to the site over the next few weeks. Nothing should be lost, everything that’s on the site at the moment will get carried over, but there should be some improvements, a change of look perhaps, and maybe some other new things.
