Thumped in Cornwall

Toolstation League Division One: Truro City 6, Wellington 0

WELLINGTON’S hopes of causing another upset in Cornwall on Tuesday night were blown away as they were hit for six by big-spending Truro City.
Kevin Evans’ side are one of only three to have avoided league defeat by the FA Vase semi-finalists, having drawn 1-1 at the Playing Field back in September.
But on a freezing night, they were no match for a team packed with ex-pros, who have now banged in 120 goals in only 25 league games.
Wellington may have hoped Truro might take it easy in view of their big Vase tie onSaturday but they fielded their strongest side and turned on the style.
Leading the way were prolific strike partners Stewart Yetton, who was playing for Plymouth Arglye until recently, and Andy Watkins, leading scorer with Toolstation champions Bideford last season.
They hit two goals apiece in the first half to seal the points by half-time as Wellington failed to cope with their slick passing, movement and lethal finishing.
And, although the visitors, had slightly more of the game after the break, Truro scored two more goals as Yetton completed his hat-trick to take his tally for the season to 55 and sub Glyn Hooper made it six.
The scoreline could have been even more emphatic but for a combination of fine goalkeeping from Shaun Locke and the woodwork, which Truro hit three times.
To their credit, Wellington – whose squad included three more new signings – never stopped trying and carved out a couple of openings, with sub Sean Anthony bringing a fine save out of Daniel Stevenson .
But they could have no complaints about the result and must now put it behind them.
At least they have no game this Saturday and so have a break before their next fixture at Clyst Rovers on March 31.
Wellington: Locke, Legg, Holland, Manley, Card, Piper, Ingram, Clough, Herrod, Cummins, Woon. Substitutes, Anthony (for Cummins, 45 minutes), Plain (for Card, 45).
