Defeat under new lights

Toolstation League premier division: Wellington 2, Bideford 3.

WELLINGTON suffered their second defeat of the season by Bideford as they played their first match under the new Playing Field floodlights last night.

Bideford had already come out on top when the sides met in the FA Cup last month.

And the scoring followed the same pattern when Scott Holland headed home a Simon Ingram free-kick to put Wellington ahead on the half-hour.

Bideford hit back to equalise on the stroke of half-time through a low drive by Matt Andrew.

They took the lead after 57 minutes – again through Andrew, who ended a fine run with a clinical finish.

When substitute Billy Hopcroft chipped home their third with ten minutes remaining, the points were sealed.

But there was still time for Wellington to reduce the arrears as leading scorer Simon Ingram converted a penalty in the dying minutes.
