Cup defeat
Somerset Premier Cup: Yeovil Town 4, Wellington 0
TWO goals in each half consigned Wellington to a Somerset Premier Cup defeat at Huish Park on Tuesday night.
Leigh Robinson’s side were always up against it playing a Yeovil side consisting mainly of reserve and youth players with a sprinkling of trialists.
And their night was marred by the last-minute sending off of Scott Holland for a second yellow card, which means they will now lose the central defender to suspension.
Wellington struggled to contain the pace and movement of the young Yeovil team, particularly winger Jermiele Johnson, whose speed and trickery set up the first two goals after 13 and 26 minutes.
On each occasion, his pull-back was expertly dispatched by Andre McCollin, the one Yeovil player on show with first-team experience.
Wellington brought on Darren Stone and Craig Herrod at half-time and were in the game more after the break.
But Yeovil extended their lead through Ryan Hall’s low drive after 62 minutes.
And, after Holland’s late dismissal, they rubbed salt into Wellington’s wounds when the resulting free-kick was headed home by Adam Wakley.
Wellington: Ryan Lewis, Craig Mawford, Scott Holland, Andy Robertson, Daniel Short, Jon Crowford, Andy Butler, Simon Ingram, Jack Adams, Shane Kingston, Aaron Deeks. Substitutes, Darren Stone, Craig Herrod and Luke Desave (all used).
