Bouncing back

Toolstation League Division One: Wellington 4, Keynsham Town 1

WELLINGTON bounced back to form after two successive home defeats with a comprehensive victory over Keynsham at the Playing Field last Saturday.

They had to weather an early storm as Kristan Douglas lobbed just wide visitors after nine minutes and then defender Tim Legg did well to block a shot by Fabien McCarthy before Wellington settled their nerves with a 23rd minute goal.

Legg sent Shane Kingston racing away down the right and the striker, back to his old self after hamstring trouble, coolly lobbed keeper Chris Astley. That was the goal Wellington needed to restore their confidence and they proceeded to tear into Keynsham with some excellent passing and movement.

The second goal came just after the half-hour as a slick move saw skipper Simon Ingram find wide-man Craig Herrod and the youngster drilled in a low shot just inside the far post.

Striker Nick Woon missed a good chance to make it 3-0 eight minutes before half-time but Wellington were not to be denied and Herrod drove home his second of the day six minutes into the second half.

Three minutes later, he completed his first hat-trick for the club as Wellington opened the Keynsham defence up again, Kingston finding Woon whose low cross was deftly turned home.

That fourth goal killed off the game as a contest although the visitors did score a consolation goal seven minutes from time with a spectacular long-range effort from McCarthy.

Wellington brought on new signing Adam Manley, who has re-joined the club from Ilminster Town, among three second-half substitutions.

Wellington: Stuart Wood, Tim Legg, Dan Short, Scott Holland, Nick Bowrah, Craig Mawford, Simon Ingram, Andy Butler, Craig Herrod, Nick Woon, Shane Kingston. Subs: Adam Manley, Mark Thompson, Greg Blenkinsop (all used).
