Second home defeat
Toolstation League Division 1: Wellington 0, Larkhall Athletic 1
WELLINGTON’S suffered their second successive home defeat at the Playing Field last Saturday.
There was never much to choose between the sides in a disappointing game with Wellington’s Shaun Anthony having a ‘goal’ disallowed for offside after 25 minutes.
Just before half-time, Wellington’s curse of the woodwork struck again – they hit the bar and post no fewer than four times in their previous defeat by Cadbury Heath. This time it was the upright which denied them again as Simon Ingram’s cross was met by Craig Herrod with Shane Kingston firing over from the rebound.
A tense game erupted into ugly scenes after 70 minutes.
A tackle by Andy Butler resulted in a mass fracas in the middle of the pitch and led to the midfielder receiving his second yellow card while Larkhall’s Jack Moon was shown a straight red.
The resulting free kick was dropped by home keeper Wayne Hitchcott and visiting skipper James Gray scored what proved to be the winner.
Wellington: Wayne Hitchcott, Craig Herrod, Scott Holland, Dan Short, Dave Anthony, Craig Herrod, Simon Ingram, Andy Butler, Jack Adams, Shaun Anthony, Shane Kingston. Subs: Tim Legg, Alex Rudd, Nick Woon (all used).
