Wellington Sunday XI 152-6 Bagborough Sunday XI 131-7
Wellington Sunday XI made it two wins out of two in Division A of the Taunton and District Sunday League last Thursday evening when they played West Somerset League club Bagborough in a rearranged game in hot conditions and with a good numbered crowd watching on.
Macaulay Campbell won the toss and opted to bat first and saw Ben Evett and Arron Campbell in good form first up with a 56 run stand for the Red and Blacks opening wicket to which Evett added 34 with a six.
With two sixes in his knock of 20 first team skipper Campbell added two sixes to his season’s tally before being out at 65-2.
A fine third wicket stand of 82 between Oli Beale (46) and Des Campbell (33) got Wellington to the brink of full batting points and this aim was achieved as H.Stirzaker with bowling figures of 4-1-8-2 was in good form with the ball for Bagborough.
Bagborough needed over seven an over to win and through Hitchcott with 29 and McKee with 35 were never out of the game, but Wellington kept chipping away.
Macaulay Campbell and Ollie Hunt took the new pink ball for Wellington and delivered a good four over burst of seam before giving way to spin in the form of Rob Moysey whose leg spin claimed 2-20 and Arron Campbell whose off spin claimed 1-29.
Ben Evett with 2-27 closed matters out for Wellington and with Cam Sentance taking 1-17 in three good overs of seam the win was Wellington’s and they claimed 31 points to Bagborough’s 10.
Excellent catching aided Wellington’s efforts with the ball as Ryan Aingworth held on to three and effected a run out, Des Campbell held a sharp chance at slip and Macaulay Campbell took a high boundary catch.
The team’s next assignment in this competition is on Sunday 1st August when they host Taunton St Andrews.
