Wellington Sunday XI took on their Wembdon counterparts in this Taunton and District Sunday League Division A game on the road last weekend and came away with a handsome 81 run win and collected 26 points for their efforts.

This was the first of three meetings between the Clubs in the next thirteen days as this match, the return fixture (A T20 game at Wellington on Monday 19th August) and a WEPL Somerset Division meeting at Wellington for the respective 1st XIs all take place between Sunday 11th August and Saturday 24th August.

Wellington opted to bat first and saw Andy and Jacob Hurry play well in testing conditions as the rain and wind combined to make for an unwelcome combination.

They added 56 runs wirth Hurry junior making a solid 16.

Hurry senior was closing in on a half century when he was caught for a well made 48.

Will Derrick hit the ball cleanly in making 23 and Jack Beal continued his good Sunday form with the bat in making 32 as Wellington scored well.

Sam Whitefield progressed his good weekend with the bat as he made a second half century with four sixes in making 62no to propel Wellington to 208-7 in their 38 overs as four overs were lost to rain from the game’s overall allocation of 80.

For Wembdon Syvret and Creedy each took two wickets.

The home team’s reply started well as Rees and Sellick added 34 good runs first up before Wellington skipper Macaulay Campbell removed his opposite number Rees for 16 with a ‘good nut’ of a ball that yorked him as he took 7-3-24-2.

Wellington then chipped away and took regular wickets with Rob Moysey’s leg spinners taking 3-21 in seven overs and Alex Derbridge’s finger spin realised 1-18 in six overs.

Sellick eventually made 32, but Wellington were closing in on the win and this was settled with two wickets each for Sam Whitefield and Connor Wickenden as spin once more did the trick for the Red and Blacks.
