Wembdon Sunday XI 192 Wellington Sunday XI 194-6

Wellington Sunday XI will have gone a calendar year unbeaten if they avoid defeat in their next game and they got to this chance with this four wicket win over WEPL Somerset Division club Wembdon last weekend at home as they made it five wins in five in Division A of the Taunton and District Sunday League to sit top of the shop with three games to play.

Wembdon won the toss and batted first and saw Ben Meek and Tom Perry were in good form with the ball, fast and accurate, as visiting skipper Rees was caught behind by Ben Evett off of Meek and it was this pair that closed out the Wembdon innings by taking some of the later wickets to fall.

In between Tyler Fyfe took another fine catch; this time on the boundary off of his skipper Macaulay Campbell as former Wellington player Tom Brooks hooked well, but was out to a blinding effort on the run.

E.Howes with 35 and Stone with 23 made good middle order runs for Wembdon, but Arron Campbell kept them in check with 3-34 in seven overs and Tom Shannon was accurate as his four overs cost just five runs to see that Wembdon were all out just short of 200 with Miles Cave weighing in with two catches and a wicket late on.

Wembdon came hard at Wellington early on, but Ben Evett and Rob Moysey withstood matters long enough to add 22 first wicket runs.

Evett with a good knock of 20 saw that the Red and Blacks were into the forties before a second wicket was lost…

Oli Beale and Arron Campbell, with knocks of 45 and 42 respectively, provided a platform for progress and with the score well advanced to 160-5 when Luke Desave was out for 28, it was Macaulay Campbell, Miles Cave and Ben Meek that saw the Red and Blacks over the line and to 26 points to Wembdon’s 19.
