Wellington Sunday XI 174-9 Wombats Sunday XI 144

Wellington Sunday XI are on a twelve match unbeaten streak that goes back to July 2017 following this 30 run friendly win over Wombats at Bishops Lydeard last weekend.

Following the demise of the Lydeard club in 2015 Wombats took over the running of the ground and this is now their home venue and a quality track had been prepared for this match.

Wellington chose to bat first on winning the toss and found themselves at 8-2 before Jack Beal and Ben Evett added 44 for the third wicket as Beal cracked 31 including taking 16 off of one over and Evett made a watchful 15, but at 59-5 Wellington were back in the danger zone once more as Jessep took 3-13.

Fighting back for the Red and Blacks were Tyler Fyfe and Arron Campbell who added 50 for the sixth wicket and Campbell and David Derrick who added 28 for the seventh as Campbell propelled on to 67.

At 149-9 Wellington total was in need of a final push and it came from last pair Ben Meek and Tom Perry who added 25 unbeaten runs as Meek hit a decent 26no.

Wombats were always in the hunt for the runs they needed despite Ben Meek removing Frazer and Dryland in his pacy five over opening burst that saw Arron Campbell bowl some tidy medium pace at the other end.

Osmond and Burbridge occupied the crease for some time as they added 51 for the home side’s third wicket before they fell on the same score to Tom Perry who saw team skipper Macaulay Campbell hold one at cover and Ben Evett collected a mishit sweep shot off of Oli Beale who was bowling as he can; they had made 33 and 24 respectively.

Tom Perry’s unbroken eight over stint realised 3-24 and Beale was one ball short of bowling out as he took 3-39 in 7.5 overs.

Jessep had cracked 25 in no time, but when he hit one to Tom Shannon at cover off of Tom Perry Wellington could sense victory.

Two run outs that were finished off by Ben Evett who put in a good stint behind the sticks saw that Wellington had a 30 run win and a perfect record so far in 2018.
