Wellington Sunday XI 218-6 Bridgwater Sunday XI 158

Wellington Sunday XI recorded an early season Taunton and District Sunday League Division A double over Bridgwater at home last weekend in perfect conditions and in front of a good numbered Bank Holiday Sunday crowd.

Macaulay Campbell opted to bat first and saw Ben Evett crack one through the covers early before been first out with the score on six.

This led to Miles Cave and Oli Beale combining to add 57 for the second Wellington wicket with Cave making 22 as he continued his good weekend following on from a good display behind the sticks the day before for the 1st XI.

Beale had made a good knock the previous day for the 3rd XI in testing conditions and here he was able to make 35 and take the side, of which he is vice captain, towards 100.

The second half impetus came from Des Campbell’s 31 and Arron Campbell’s great 79 with six sixes to boot as Wellington made it to well over 200 with Rob Moysey, Macaulay Campbell and Will Derrick all making good late runs.

Locke with 17 runs going off his seven overs of seam was Bridgwater’s best bowler as their skipper Bellinger picked up two late wickets, but at a cost.

Gilbert and Duckering raced away when it came to be Bridgwater’s turn to bat and it took a fine Will Derrick yorker to remove Duckering for 14.

Oli Beale saw that B.Powlett played a bad shot to be bowled and Bridgwater were 53-2, but Gilbert was going well and when Macaulay Campbell bowled him for 38 Wellington were relieved.

By this time Ben Evett had taken a ball on the thumb whilst keeping and had to leave the field of play, but he was able to come back later on.

Miles Cave took over the gloves and once again put in a good display.

Wellington kept taking regular wickets as Rob Moysey (3-37 in seven overs) and Arron Campbell (five good overs for sixteen) shared the bowling in the middle overs, but whilst Bridgwater skipper Bellinger was there he was a threat to Wellington’s victory hopes, but a smart piece of glove work from Miles Cave on receipt of Will Derrick’s throw from the boundary found him just short of his ground having made 49.

Ben Evett, now an outfielder, took the winning catch at square leg off of Will Derrick to give Wellington a 60 run 24 point win with Bridgwater taking 18 for their efforts.

Wellington now take a near two month rest from TSL action and will play a number of friendlies in the meantime.
