Wellington Sunday XI 283-6 Bagborough Sunday XI 265-8
Wellington Sunday XI’s good recent form in Division A of the Taunton and District Sunday League continued when they edged a high scoring game at West Somerset League club Bagborough last weekend when Arron Campbell’s side won by 18 runs and so collected 25 points to rise to second in the five team table with two to play.
Kayden Hine was the star of the show as he carried his bat for 152no with eleven sixes as he added 137 for the second wicket with Luke Desave who made 49 – very nearly a second half century against the West Somerset side in the Sunday League this season after Hine and Ben Evett had added 37 opening wicket runs with Evett making 12.
Arron Campbell with 18 and Ollie Beale with 14 gave fine support to Hine who passed the landmark of 150 by hitting three sixes in the last over of the Wellington innings as he was particularly harsh on Liney who was Bagborough’s best bowler with 3-69 in seven overs.
Liney was first to go for 14, but Wellington found another breakthrough hard to come by and this saw Ruell and Trick add 104 second wicket runs in good style and it took a brute of a spinning ball from Arron Campbell to remove Ruell for 61 as he lost his leg bail.
Ollie Beale removed Chiplin as Kayden Hine was now showing good form with the gloves stumping him with ease, but with Trick progressing well and Dingle hitting cleanly for 37 Bagborough were not out of the hunt for the win and with Hitchcott (17) and McKee with 22 aiding Trick (79) the home side’s score was still of concern to Wellington, but with Arron Campbell taking 4-29 in seven good overs of off spin, Tyler Fyfe’s good second spell and same from Macaulay Campbell with Luke Desave using his extra pace wisely Wellington had enough in the tank to complete the season’s double over Bagborough and with two to play still be a major part of what is going to be an exciting end to the 2017 season in this competition in general and this division in particular.
The T20 format match between North Petherton and Bridgwater on the evening of Wednesday 16th August is of interest to Wellington for they have still to play these two sides between next weekend and the second weekend of September.
