Wembdon Sunday XI 161 Wellington Sunday XI 166-6
Wellington Sunday XI made it two wins out of two in Division A of the Taunton and District Sunday League when they secured a home win over reigning champions Wembdon last weekend.
Fellow WEPL Somerset Division side Wembdon opted to bat first and were indebted to their overseas player from Australia – Marrs – as he smote 64 in good time and it took a good boundary catch from Ryan Henwood to see the back of him as Rob Moysey struck.
Jack Beal’s seven over opening burst was good to watch, costing just 18 runs.
His new ball partner Nick Crossing was equally in good form with 1-25 in seven.
Leg spin from Ben Evett and Rob Moysey shored up the middle portion of the Wembdon innings.
Tyler Fyfe bowled his left arm seamers well and was rewarded when Jack Beal took a good catch.
Zandre Swartz bowled his leg spinners and in 19 balls took five wickets for a cost of 14 runs to see that Wembdon were all out for 161 with just under five overs left.
Alex Sparks and Ollie Beale added 21 in good style for Wellington early on before Beale was bowled.
This saw Sparks – who made a crisp 64 – and skipper Arron Campbell add 65 for the second wicket.
Sparks was out LBW and a second wicket in the same over from Keirle gave Wellington something to think on, but Campbell with 48 was seeing his side to a good win and this was secured by Zandre Swartz and Luke Vernon with Swartz cracking three more sixes.
Wellington took 28 points to Wembdon’s 18 and sit second with another six such games on offer this season.
