Wellington Sunday XI 248-9 North Curry Sunday XI 181-7

Wellington made a winning start to their Division B campaign in the SCS Taunton and District Sunday League at Taunton School last weekend when 23 out of 25 points were accrued from a good all-round performance.

Wellington opted to bat first and lost a wicket with the score at eight, but Michael Gill and Mark Salter added a fine 70 for the second wicket with both playing well – Salter hit five boundaries in his 23 before trying to pull one and got it high on the bat and was caught at mid on.

Gill progressed to 78 and was sixth out after a great knock that saw him time the ball very well amongst other good traits to his batting.

He batted well with James Bath who made a great 42 – the highest score of his short Wellington career – as he hit well over the top and glided the ball around well too.

Paul Short with 46 and Rob Moysey with 17 took Wellington past 200 and in the end 248-9 had been posted at tea.

North Curry – from Division Three of the Somerset League – made a decent enough start as Sharp and Grey added 64 opening wicket runs before Paul Short (2-28 in 7) removed both openers.

Rob Moysey displayed all his tricks and was mighty unlucky to go wicketless, but the great control that Short and Moysey brought with them reigned North Curry in.

Alex Troake got a wicket through a good catch by Mark Salter as he was virtually blinded by the sunshine that had replaced showers.

Sam Murdock and Neil Hendy picked up late wickets for Wellington as North Curry closed on 181-7 and took 13 points from the match.

A good start to the new league and a home match with North Petherton on Sunday 16th May is the next such match for the side.
