Two wins to end the season

Toolstation League premier division: Wellington 1, Calne Town 0.

WELLINGTON ended their season with an odd-goal victory over relegated Calne Town yesterday – their second win in three days.
After their heroics at Ilfracombe when they beat third in the league, they had to grind  out a result in a dour match not helped by the bumpy Playing Field pitch.
Calne, who have slumped to bottom of the table, should have gone ahead after 27 minutes when Dan King was sent racing clear but shot wide with only keeper Steve Johns to beat.
The only goal of the game arrived six minutes before half-time and capped a man-of-the-match performance by Scott Holland, who has revelled in his unaccustomed midfield role.
Skipper Simon Ingram swung over a free-kick, which was knocked down to Holland and he calmly lifted the ball into the roof of the net.
The second half was a scrappy affair with Calne keeper Steve Allison doing well to keep out efforts from sub Luke Perry and Levi Marlow.
The visitors were determined to leave the division in style and Wellington were indebted to Johns for a pair of fine saves from Aaron Hopkins and Mark Dolman.
Wellington: Steve Johns, Ashley Gaines, Martin White, Greg Jackson, Jack Adams, Levi Marlow, Simon Ingram, David Thorne, Scott Holland, Shane Kingston, Dan Thompson. Substitutes: Luke Perry (used), Warren Patmore (not used). Attendance:  65.

BIDEFORD clinched the premier division title yesterday when they won 2-0 at Corsham while nearest rivals Willand could only manage a goalless draw at Longwell Green.
