Unbeaten run ended
Toolstation League premier division: Wellington 1, Street 2
WELLINGTON saw their eight-match unbeaten run ended by Street at the Playing Field yesterday.
The home side dominated the game from the kick-off during a frantic first half but the closest they came to scoring was a rasping drive from Jon Crowford, which cannoned back off the post.
Street took the lead ten minutes into the second half when Wellington failed to clear a corner and central defender Ben Amghar capitalised on the hesitation by shooting low into the net.
Wellington launched attack after attack in search of an equaliser but it was Street who virtually sealed the points with a second goal on the break eight minutes from time.
The ball was slipped through to James Bisgrove and he advanced on goal before coolly shooting past keeper Ryan Lewis.
To their credit, Wellington refused to lie down and they were awarded a penalty in the final minute for a foul on Stone.
Skipper Simon Ingram stepped up to score from the spot – despite a valiant attempt by the diving Webb – but it proved too late to alter the result.
