Wellington Cricket Club AGM 2020-2021_Financial Presentation
An extraordinary financial year where we have been able to achieve some of our investment plans
for 2020 thanks to our small cash reserve and grants.
Our plans for 2020 were to invest in a new 3 lane Net system, improve the bar facilities and
purchase a large mower to help our groundsman with the preparation of our square.
Regretfully in March due to COVID-19 and after we had successfully applied for planning permission
Viridor declined and withdrew their £90k grant. West of England Premier Cricket League also put on
hold until 2021 payment of the agreed £1500 Mower grant.
Income Summary
During spring it looked as if there would be no cricket with no bar income, no membership income
and no sponsorship income. I applied to Sport England for a £1300 grant to cover our fixed costs and
rent for March to July – they agreed £1000. We have also received other grant support.
In March our late President Duncan Short wrote to all our Vice Presidents and Sponsors and we
received a very generous donation from a VP who wishes to remain anonymous as well as donations
from some VPs and sponsors – Duncan leaves a large hole in our club and he will be missed.
July saw the start of cricket and with Amanda Moysey’s hard work the bar opened and a reduced players
membership fee was agreed for the shortened season.
Spending Summary
The committee decided to move forward with our investment plans and we have purchased a new
mower, a cooler system for the cellar as well as an Ice machine and glass washer for the bar.
Substantial funds have also been invested on the square in the autumn with our groundsmen putting
in many hours of work to continue improving the quality of our cricket pitch and ultimately cricket at
Wellington Cricket Club.
Looking forward to 2021
Financially we do not know where we will be in 2021. I don’t believe there will be any further Grants
or COVID support so in 2021 we will need to stand on our own two feet and cover our fixed costs,
overheads and investment plans for 2021.
Wellington Reds Football Club has been successfully set up with the aim to retain team spirit, expand
our membership and open the bar throughout the winter period which will help cover our ongoing
fixed monthly costs.
Thanks to some prudent cash management in 2019 and 2020 we still have a small cash reserve.
However in these uncertain times we will need to be very careful as to how we spend our funds in
2021.
