Wembdon Sunday XI 114-8 Wellington Sunday XI 106-8

Wellington Sunday XI top Division A of the Taunton and District Sunday League despite this eight run loss to fellow WEPL Somerset Division side Wembdon in a T20 match that was played on Monday evening as a replacement for the original match that was due to have been played on World Cup Final Day back in July.

Wembdon decided to bat first on winning the toss and they started well as Rees and Sellick put on 36 opening wicket runs before Nathan Roberts struck twice in three balls to set the visitors back.

With Wellington skipper Macaulay Campbell getting a wicket Wembdon were 49-3, but with Sellick continuing to 32 and Stone adding 28 the visitors approached three figures.

Wellington claimed some good late wickets as Jack Beal, Alex Derbridge and Tom Shannon got amongst the tail to see that the Red and Blacks would need 115 to win.

Sam Whitefield and Ben Evett gave Wellington a cracking start with a 38 run opening stand with Whitefield making 20 with four boundaries, but when T.Stacey took two wickets in three balls the hosts had a bit of thinking to do.

The run out of Evett for 20 with the score on 52 was crucial in the end outcome as he was seeing the ball well in the fading light.

Aks Latifi with 13 got Wellington into the sixties, but Wembdon spinners Sellick and Syvret delivered eight overs for just 26 runs combined and this saw that the run rate was always just a bit out of Wellington’s reach despite Macaulay Campbell’s fine 27no late on as his side claimed 18 points and have one game to play in the competition this season away to Bridgwater on Saturday 7th September with a 1.00pm start.
