Wellington Sunday XI 197-9 Taunton St Andrews Sunday XI 198-5

Wellington Sunday XI’s defence of the Taunton and District Sunday League title started at the Wyvern Club last weekend when the Red and Blacks fell to a five wicket defeat having posted a decent total.

Choosing to bat first a wicket went down with the total on 5, but Arron Campbell and Jack Beal got the fifty up with knocks of 32 and 30 respectively.

Beal taking 16 from one over was a good sight to see and Campbell played the TSA attack’s mix of seam and spin well.

Des Campbell with 32 laid into the short ball well and hit some powerful shots and with Will Derrick and David Derrick giving him good support skipper Macaulay Campbell made a fine 23 to see that his side would approach full batting points which last wicket pair Alex Derbridge and Tom Shannon worked hard to achieve.

Ben Walford with 2-15 in six overs was the home side’s, who play their 1st XI league cricket in WEPL Premier One, best bowler figures wise.

TSA opener Martin Jenkins took full advantage of been dropped early to a sharp chance at slip off of Will Derrick to make a match winning 105no as spin worked for Wellington as Rob Moysey saw Ben Evett make a good stumping, Arron Campbell spun the ball hard and Alex Derbridge collected two wickets late on, but it was a TSA win in the end.
