Somerset League AGM 2017

The main outcome of the League’s AGM for 2017 as was held on the evening of Monday 11th December was that both propositions for ‘classic’ Overseas Players to be allowed in the SCL in 2018 were defeated; the opening proposal was for OS players (not the OP2 variety that are still allowed…) to be permitted to play at ALL levels and this was comfortably defeated.

A complimentary proposal to allow OS players at the top two levels only was defeated by one vote.

With OS players and their entry into the UK to play the game at the recreational level been even more controlled for the coming season than ever before it may well have been that getting such players through would have been hard anyway, even impossible even if the vote had gone in favour of the concept…

WCC has benefited from engaging with OS players in the past and may well do so in the future, but feels that it is very much in the ECB’s Premier Leagues where such players should reside and not in the County Leagues.
