Ilton 2nd XI 212-7 Wellington 3rd XI 213-4

This was Wellington 3rd XI’s first full game in Division Seven Red of the Somerset League for five weeks given recent weather and the team’s schedule, but they came back with a bang as Richard Henwood’s charges won well at divisional leaders Ilton and collected 32 points in the process as they chased down over 200 with well over two overs to spare.

Ilton, who batted first, saw their skipper Male be the bedrock of their innings as he made a capital 61 and was supported by a series of solid knocks thereafter.

It was tough going at times with the ball, but Alex Dixon with 3-55 in seven overs enjoyed success as did Richard Henwood with 2-22 in eight overs; Cam Sentance was Wellington’s other successful bowler on the day.

Wellington lost a wicket with the score at four and with skipper Henwood out for 16 at 35-2 there was work to do, but Mark Salter was getting going and to the tune of 34 well-made runs with a six he and Des Campbell took the score to 67-3 and a platform was there.

It was when Alex Dixon joined Campbell that Wellington’s third string started to come into their own as they added 108 runs for the fourth wicket in dominant fashion with Dixon making 53 in robust style.

When he was out nearly forty were needed for victory and it was Des Campbell along with Tyler Fyfe who did the job with a fine 67 not out from Campbell seeing the team home in style along with a sensible and thoughtful knock from Fyfe aiding his vice-captain all the way.

Hill with 2-21 in eight overs lead the Ilton attack well.
