Chard 76 Wellington 77-4
Wellington recorded a sparkling six wicket West of England Premier League Somerset Division home win over Chard last weekend to make it three wins in a row, move up to seventh place and really get into the closely grouped mid table pack of teams.
Chard, who won the toss and chose to bat, were simply never allowed to prosper by the Red and Blacks opening attack of Luke Desave and Will Derrick and it was Desave (7-1-10-1) who took the vital wicket of Chard run machine Mawdsley for just four and Wellington were in business.
Derrick (6-1-18-1) removed Crouch and at 11-2 the opening pair were both back in the hutch.
Some relief for Chard came in the form of Scott with 10 and Johnson with 10 and they got their side to 29-2 before the roof caved in on their innings with Ryan Aingworth taking 3-20 in nine excellent overs of seam and skipper Arron Campbell taking 4-19 in nine equally excellent overs of off spin.
Chard slumped to 58-8 and it was only a knock of 13 from their keeper Balch that kept matters going until the 32nd over.
Jack Beal completed the job by bowling last man Dening and it was 77 to win for Wellington after tea.
To avoid any issues with weather as there were showers in the vicinity Wellington went on the attack to get the job done as quickly as possible as Sam Whitefield’s knock of eleven in seven balls with a four and a six showed.
James Brackenbury with eleven too faced just sixteen balls.
Wellington were 38-3 when Brackenbury was out, but Alex Sparks with a cool 32no in 24 balls saw the game over the line for Wellington with Jack Beal and Arron Campbell joining him in this work.
Twenty points were claimed and with it an early finish.
Pre match in the warm up there was a clash of heads between Neil Hendy and Ben Evett and thanks go to all who assisted them in getting on their feet again including Harvey Dening of Chard CC who used his skills as a paramedic to dress the resulting wounds.
