Minehead 190-9 Wellington 191-8
Wellington completed a superb season’s double over Minehead in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League last weekend when their trip to the seaside brought them 18 excellent points and with it more proximity to the mid table pack.
Arron Campbell won the toss and asked the Seasiders to bat first and saw that Buchanan and Godfrey got away to the tune of a 46 run opening wicket stand with the former player making 34, but when Godfrey was first out Wellington’s attack was in the ascendancy with Luke Desave, Arron Campbell and Ryan Aingworth all getting amongst the Minehead line up.
Desave took 2-42 in nine overs delivered in two spells, skipper Campbell, who is now back bowling at full capacity, took 1-25 in nine overs and Aingworth 2-21 in nine excellently controlled overs as Minehead fell away to 147-9 with Neil Hendy and Sam Whitefield delivering 3-30 and 1-35 respectively late on.
Minehead’s last wicket pair of B.Taylor with 54 not out and E.Taylor with 19 not out dented Wellington’s hopes of chasing no more than 150 as they added 43 to end on 190-9 in their 45 overs.
Wellington’s reply reached 42-3 with Nathan Roberts making 16 before Alex Sparks and Arron Campbell took the score to within one run of three figures before Sparks was out LBW for a well made 27.
Campbell then proceeded to play an excellent knock of 52 not out in 82 balls with four fours as he guided his side home with his deputy Luke Desave contributing 13 and Callum Hendy a well-made 16 before he was out at 144-7.
This left over forty runs needed for victory and excellent work was done by Neil Hendy with 16 in 22 balls to get the Red and Blacks to 185-8 and the job was completed by the skipper and Ryan Aingworth with some 13 balls to spare.
For Minehead Sherring with 3-32 in nine overs was their top performer with the ball.
