Wellington Sunday XI 264-6 Taunton St Andrews Sunday XI 193-7

Wellington Sunday XI collected 27 Taunton and District Sunday League Division A points last weekend at WEPL Premier Two (Bristol and Somerset) club Taunton St Andrews when weight of runs took them to victory.

Having won an excellent toss Macaulay Campbell saw his side prosper from the off as Ben Evett and Alex Sparks added 38 opening wicket runs in the scorching heat with Evett lashing 24 with one six.

Skipper Campbell joined Sparks, who was going through the gears by now, and they took the Wellington score into the nineties before Campbell was caught for 11 with one six.

Oli Beale continued his excellent weekend with a knock of 66 that took Wellington to 195 at which time Sparks had made a capital 100 retired not out with three sixes as his glorious stroke play was a pleasure to watch.

Arron Campbell with 21, Richard Grinter with 14 and Will Derrick with 9 added good middle order runs and it was David Derrick and Cam Sentance who were at the crease for Wellington at tea as the evergreen Martin Baldock took 3-20 in six overs of left arm spin for Saints.

Tyler Fyfe and Cam Sentance took the new ball for Wellington and had success as Ben Evett took a swirling catch off of Sentance to see the back of Martin Jenkins who has scored many runs in this game down the years and Fyfe had success as a magnificent one handed mid air pluck from Paul Short saw the back of Ashton Norrie who thought that the boundary was the destination of this particular shot.

It was pretty much all spin thereafter for Wellington as Ben Evett with 2-30 in seven overs and Oli Beale with 1-33 in seven overs enjoyed wicket taking success.

Paul Short and Arron Campbell delivered fourteen overs of off spin between them for a cost of just 59 runs and there was a late wicket for Macaulay Campbell as seam made a brief return to the Wellington attack.

For Saints a great knock by 13 year old Thomas Rew with 57 was the bedrock of their innings as they claimed 19 points.

Wellington has a T20 date with Bagborough on Thursday 22nd July at home as they chase more league points.
