Wellington Sunday XI 154-7dec North Devon Sunday XI 2-1

Wellington Sunday XI travelled to Devon League Division A side North Devon last weekend and got some play in at their very pleasant ground at Instow, but the game was eventually washed away for good when persistent rain came in at around 1.30pm

An early start was made at 11.00am due to the Euro Football Final that evening and Macaulay Campbell won the toss and had no hesitation in opting to bat on a rock hard surface.

Arron Campbell and Nathan Roberts got ten on the board for Wellington before a double strike by left arm spinner Tyson with the score on 10 set the Red and Blacks back somewhat.

Arron Campbell along with Luke Desave rectified this matter with a 54 run third wicket stand that took the Wellington score to 64 before Campbell was out for a classy 35.

Ben Evett batted with Desave for the second day running and they edged Wellington’s score into the eighties.

Jack Beal was next to bat with Desave as he reached a second fifty of the weekend in making 56 in 51 balls with seven fours and two sixes before been fifth out with Wellington at 117.

Good runs came from Beal with 12, Des Campbell with 11 and Macaulay Campbell with 7no and after with 24.4 overs Wellington were 154-7 and declared their innings closed having had to come off for a first batch of rain that saw play could not continue.

Moore with 2-2 in three very quick overs was the pick of the North Devon attack and there was one wicket each for Foster and Howe.

Using the DLS method North Devon would need 147 to win in 24 overs and their reply did commence, but only four balls from Will Derrick were possible before the game was formally abandoned as a draw with the rain coming down harder than ever and never looking like shifting, but in that time Tyson was run out after been called through for a run that was just not there and Jacob Hurry, as wicket keeper, had the wherewithal to calmly get the ball to Derrick to effect the run out at the non-striker’s end.
