Wellington are some thirty-six points clear of ninth placed Taunton St Andrews 2nd XI in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League after this six wicket loss at Wembdon last time out and face bottom side Staplegrove at home this weekend in what represents a good opportunity to put some more points on the board.
As for this game Wembdon won what was a good toss to win and asked Wellington to bat first and their score dipped to 15-4 as Brockwell (9-5-9-2) and Rich (9-4-11-2) were in the ascendancy with the new ball.
Ben Evett with 32 in 67 balls with three fours played a resolute and robust innings for his side batting at number five and added 72 excellent fifth wicket runs with Luke Desave who compiled a capital 59 in 76 balls with eight fours.
Neil Hendy with 16 in 43 balls guided Wellington to 150 all out with two balls going unused as Woolway with an expensive 3-36 in 5.4 overs ended matters.
Luke Desave struck first ball for Wellington as he removed Anning and when Pope was out for 21 the Wembdon score was 31-2 as the vice-captain ended with 2-22 in seven overs.
Penny with 39, Brockwell with 42, Puddy with 25no and Rich with 23no all made solid contributions for the home side as they chased the score that they required down with Neil Hendy and Sam Whitefield taking Wellington’s other wickets.
