Wellington 3rd XI 167-7 Chard 3rd XI 168-5

Wellington 3rd XI’s good run in the month came to an end at Chard last weekend, but Richard Henwood’s side still put in a good shift and came away with 13 points to be fifth in the Somerset League’s Division Seven Red at the halfway point.

It was Henwood and Simon Burrough who opened up for the Red and Blacks third string and they added a decent 78 for the first wicket that saw them defy the Chard attack for over twenty overs; it was ended when Burrough was bowled for 36 as he tried to force the pace.

Henwood was out with the score on 90 as he was caught and bowled for 37.

Des Campbell then took charge of the Wellington innings with a fine knock of 48 as newcomer Rupert Kravitz with 16 helped him add 32 for the third wicket.

From then Marc Bright joined Campbell and they added 38 to get the score to 160-4 when the vice captain was out; more runs were scrambled in the last over as it left David Derrick and Alex Derbridge at the crease at tea with Wellington at 167-7 in 40 overs.

For Chard’s third string, Crew with 0-16 in eight overs and Grinter with 2-21 in eight were in accurate form.

Chard’s reply was built on Tolley’s 102no as he batted throughout their innings and won the game and brought up his ton with a six.

Wickets came the way of each of Cam Sentance, Richard Henwood, Alex Derbridge, Connor Wickenden and Des Campbell with Tyler Fyfe and Isla Hendy each taking catches, but the robustness of Tolley saw his side home and to 32 points and the two teams swap positions in the mid table portion of the division.
