Wellington 2nd XI 308-2 Taunton Deane 4th XI 129-7

Wellington 2nd XI ensured that they completed the first half of their season in Division Six South unbeaten and in top spot in the table with this overwhelming home win over Taunton Deane 4th XI last weekend.

It was another personal triumph for Thom Trott who crafted a sensational 139no with three sixes once Alex Troake had won the toss and had decided to bat.

Trott and Andy Hurry added 152 for the opening Red and Blacks second string wicket and when Hurry was out for 65 it was Lewis Sparks who came to the crease and struck a crisp 43 to get Wellington to 200-2.

It was when batting with Jacob Hurry that Trott went into overdrive and added 108 unbroken third wicket runs to take the side to an imperious 308-2 in just 40 overs.

When it came to their turn to bat Taunton Deane decided on survival being the best policy and kept the hosts in the field for the full extent.

Betts with 20 and H.Phillips with 27 did their best to stop any Wellington progress with the ball as Lee Nichol and Ian Hewson, who have formed a durable opening bowling partnership for Wellington 2nd XI this season, let just 21 runs go in the sixteen overs bowled between them.

With just eleven runs coming off his five overs Tom Shannon kept up the accurate seam bowling for Wellington before spin in the form of leg spin from both ends in the shape of Alex Troake and Rob Moysey took some wickets as 8-0-27-2 and 7-1-33-3 were claimed respectively.

Jake Nichol played his first league game since the opening day of the season and got some overs in at the end as 32 points were claimed and it is Lydford who will provide the stiffest test of the side’s title credentials when they meet at Wellington in July it would seem.
