Somerset Stragglers 129-5 Wellington Midweek XI 132-6
Tyler Fyfe got his first victory of the season as skipper of Wellington Midweek XI who chased down Somerset Stragglers score of 129-5 at Trull CC last Wednesday as the Red and Blacks recorded a four wicket win with two balls to spare.
Stragglers opted to bat first on winning the toss and saw Axon was caught behind by Jacob Hurry off of Ollie Hunt with the score on 14 as it was Tyler Fyfe and Hunt who took the new pink ball for Wellington and they did a good job for their side.
Spin in the form of Oli Beale’s leg spin (4-0-14-2) and Paul Short’s off spin (4-1-11-2) sent Stragglers into a spin as they lurched to 46-4, but a decent 75 run stand for the fifth wicket between E.Martin 25no and C.Ball with 33 took Stragglers to 129-5 in their 20 over allocation.
Wellington saw Ben Evett with 10 and James Brackenbury with 18 add 34 for their first wicket to give their reply a good start and this continued by Jack Beal and Sam Whitefield who took the score to 64-3 when Whitefield was out for 14.
Beal cracked 32 with one six as he batted well with Jacob Hurry who made a decent 11, but they were both out by the time Wellington’s score had reached 99-5 with some thirty needed to win off the last three overs.
Paul Short and Andy Hurry took the score to 116 at which point Hurry was run out and this saw Oli Beale arrive at the crease and so the last over dawned needing twelve to win and Short eased the nerves of the good number of Wellington supporters who were present with two fours off of balls three and four of the last over to end on 21no and so see his side home to a four wicket victory.
For Stragglers Gale with 4-0-24-2 and Salt with 4-0-30-2 were their most successful bowlers.
The team’s next game is away to Sampford Peverell CC on Wednesday 14th July.
