Wellington 136-8 Brompton Ralph 75

Wellington are into the Baker Cup’s Terry Mockridge Memorial Shield Semi Finals following this good Quarter Final win at West Somerset League side Brompton Ralph last Monday evening and the Red and Blacks have earnt the right to play either Trull A or Staplegrove on their own turf on Monday 14th June as they were always to host that game on behalf of the Competition.

Arron Campbell opted to bat first on winning the toss and it was the skipper and Alex Sparks who opened up for Wellington and they added 29 first wicket runs with Campbell stroking a well timed 21.

Sparks was joined by Ben Evett and hit the same as the skipper with a huge six to boot before being out at 58-2.

Evett with 12 was in good form, but at 77-6 Wellington needed some consolidation and it came from the teenage pair of Oli Beale with 17 and Callum Hendy who marshalled the last few overs of the Wellington innings with 16no as they put on 37 most useful runs for the seventh wicket; late runs to take Wellington to 136-8 in 20 overs came from Ryan Aingworth and Neil Hendy.

For Brompton George Ruell with 5-0-28-4 was in good form with the ball.

Brompton saw their skipper Ruell and Ed Howard start well, but this stand was ended by Luke Desave who had Howard caught behind by Ben Evett as he took two catches and a stumping.

Ollie Blakeman with 23 was looking good, but when Ruell was run out for 20 by Alex Sparks and then Ryan Aingworth found himself on a hat trick the game was moving towards Wellington.

Neil Hendy with two wickets in his four overs pretty much sealed the deal for Wellington and it was spin that saw Wellington over the line with Paul Short and Oli Beale seeing the Brompton innings ending for 75 in 17.3 overs and a game with either fellow WEPL Somerset Division side Staplegrove and Somerset League Premier Division side Trull awaits the side as they aim to get to the Final of a Competition that they won in successive seasons back in 2008 and 2009.
