Wellington 3rd XI 290-4 Huish and Langport 2nd XI 141
Wellington 3rd XI found their form at Sampford Arundel CC last weekend when they recorded a hefty 149 run win over Huish and Langport 2nd XI in Division Seven Red of the Somerset League and so collected 35 very welcome points.
Wellington were asked to bat first and saw James Brackenbury and Trevor Brooks add a classy 114 runs for the opening wicket in dominant style with Brackenbury making a capital 63 with two sixes before being first man out for the Red and Blacks third string.
After losing skipper Richard Henwood at 134-2 Des Campbell joined Trevor Brooks and they added 149 runs for the third wicket in fine style with Campbell cracking 78 with three sixes and a number of fours; this knock was played at a fast tempo and saw that Wellington closed in on a score of 300.
Brooks was in great form too as he made 93 before being run out in the penultimate over as he looked to bring up three figures of his own – a majestic knock that provided a lot of solidity for the side.
Alex Dixon and Ollie Hunt were at the crease for Wellington when the tea break came.
Huish and Langport struggled with the ball with just three bowlers taking wickets.
The visitors scored quickly, but lost plenty of wickets too as they dipped to 51-7 with Tyler Fyfe, Ollie Hunt (8-1-31-3) and Cam Sentance all getting rewards with the ball for Wellington.
Swaine with 17 and Banks with 39 added some solidity to the H and L reply as they used up overs and got from 51-7 to an eventual 141 all out.
Slow bowling from each of Alex Derbridge (5-1-8-1) and Connor Wickenden (5-0-28-1) was successful after the seamers had given way and there was even an over from David Derrick as Wellington tried all options to speed the H and L innings to a conclusion.
The end came when Banks was run out backing up from the first ball of Tyler Fyfe’s second spell and so brought a second win of the season for the side.
This was the third run out of the innings following on from earlier efforts from Cam Sentance and Alex Dixon.
