Shapwick and Polden 235 Wellington 127

Wellington face some important games in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League to close out the first half of the 2021 season following this defeat to Shapwick and Polden who top the table at this time with Wellington in seventh place.

On the best day weather wise for cricket so far this season S and P won the toss and batted.

Luke Desave and Will Derrick reduced the visitors to 43-3 with Desave taking an eventual 9-1-29-2 and Derrick 9-1-43-1 and at this stage a good start had been made by Wellington, but through Hill with 33, Spencer with 59, Harvey with 33 and Luckins with 30 the S and P middle order fired and got their side to over 200.

Wickets for Jack Beal (two) and one apiece for each of Ryan Aingworth, Paul Short and Macaulay Campbell saw that the S and P innings was wrapped up with five balls of the last over going unused and so Wellington had claimed full bowling points.

Wellington’s innings was one that saw Luke Desave top score with a masterful 50no with six fours and two sixes and Sam Whitefield making 14 and skipper Arron Campbell making 12, but other than a late flurry from Will Derrick that realised 19 in 14 balls with three fours and a six the collective effort did not make inroads into the S and P total as Mason with 9-2-30-4 returned their best analysis.
