Taunton St Andrews 4th XI 106 Wellington 2nd XI 107-4
It was a full points win for Wellington 2nd XI in Division Six South of the Somerset League at home over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend as Alex Troake’s team took 35 points from their six wicket win over Taunton St Andrews 4th XI.
Winning the toss saw Troake ask the visitors to take first knock and they saw Contreras and Rew add a solid 25 runs for the opening wicket with Lee and Jake Nichol not giving much away for Wellington with the new ball.
The breakthrough and there were several came through first change bowlers Ian Hewson and Alex Troake as TSA’s score dipped to 50-6 as the pair let just 35 runs go in sixteen overs on their way to 2-19 and 3-16 respectively as seam and spin combined well.
With Cooper-Smith making 13 there was a late rally from the TSA lower order, but Rob Moysey with 3-14 in seven overs of leg spin and Thom Trott with 2-14 in 6.2 overs of accurate seam had seen that TSA’s fourth string was out for 106 with four balls going unused.
Trevor Brooks with 33 and Thom Trott with a classy 56 added 89 for Wellington’s first wicket in fine style before a four wicket flurry made the Red and Blacks second string take a moment or two to think, but the victory was achieved by Mark Salter and Tom Shannon with plenty of overs and time to spare.
