Taunton 3rd XI 161 Wellington 3rd XI 165-2
Wellington 3rd XI, playing in the Somerset League’s Division Seven Red in 2021, made it a hat-trick of wins over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend when they saw off Taunton 3rd XI at Sampford Arundel CC by eight wickets.
Another toss was won and another choice was made to bowl first by Richard Henwood and this decision was rewarded when Tyler Fyfe (3-19 in five overs) removed F.Jewell LBW with the score on three.
Ryan Henwood removed another opener Manley with a good yorker with the score on 20.
Left handed number three batsman Wigley hit a powerful 36 and was looking set before he was one of four victims for debuting 15 year old Cameron Sentance who took 4-30 in five overs and can be well pleased with his first game for the Red and Blacks.
Richard Henwood and Connor Wickenden added wickets in the latter stages of the Taunton innings as their last two wickets saw 61 runs added from a position of 100-8 as Foden with 39 and last man out Gale with 41 put up good resistance for their side who were bowled out in 29.3 overs.
Wellington’s response saw Simon Burrough compile 64 excellent runs as opener as he first batted with Richard Henwood to add 68 prior to Henwood deciding to leave the field of play having made 15no due to an arm injury.
Des Campbell joined Burrough and they took the opening stand to 95 before Burrough was run out after looking for a single from a dropped catch.
Campbell’s powerful 35 not out with two sixes and the 21 runs that new acquisition James Brackenbury, who had earlier kept well on debut, saw Wellington to 148-2 and it was another new signing in Alex Dixon who saw Wellington over the line with Campbell and to 35 very welcome points to commence their new season with.
