Wembdon 5th XI 121 Wellington 122-1
The final Wellington Pre-Season XI for 2021 made a visit to Wembdon CC last Sunday to take on the home Club’s 5th string who play in the West Somerset League and came away with a fine nine wicket win under Alex Troake’s captaincy.
Wellington asked the home team to bat first and they were all at sea against fine seam bowling from Macaulay Campbell and Tom Shannon who took two wickets apiece – all bowled – as only home skipper Hurford with 15 showed any early staying power.
The score became 35-6 as Tyler Fyfe and Connor Wickenden combined to take two wickets for the latter player with the former pouching two catches.
Fyfe later joined the attack and did a good job with his left arm seamers.
Pope with 45 and L.Winter with 37 showed some grit as they added 74 for the seventh wicket in good style but Andy Hurry with 4-8 in 4.5 overs ended matters in the 31st over for 121.
It was Andy Hurry with a classy 50 run retired not out knock that saw him add 109 for Wellington’s opening wicket with his son Jacob who made an equally classy 53 not out and with Richard Henwood saw that the Red and Blacks crossed the line with time and overs to spare.
