Minehead 258-6 Wellington 185-8

Wellington’s penultimate pre-season game of 2021 saw the Red and Blacks take a trip to fellow WEPL Somerset Division side Minehead last Saturday and had a good game with the home side in plenty of sunshine.

Minehead opted to bat first and saw Buchanan and B.Taylor get away to a 44 run opening stand that was ended when Luke Desave removed Taylor for 13.

This brought Bowditch to the crease and he crafted a great knock of 72 that was the bedrock of the Minehead total.

At 92-4 with Ryan Aingworth taking 3-39 in eight overs Minehead were in a spot of bother, but Bowditch in tandem with Wilson who hit a powerful 60 took the score to 187-5.

Late wickets for both Rob Moysey and Lewis Sparks came and Minehead had 258-6 at ‘tea’ with Darrell making 38no and Pawson making 14no in an unbroken forty run seventh wicket stand.

Thom Trott and Oli Beale took the attack to Minehead as they added a fluent 67 run opening stand for Wellington with some excellent strokes from both players.

The stand was broken when Trott was bowled for a well made 34.

Beale continued his excellent early season form with a cracking knock of 52; his second successive fifty.

It was that man Bowditch who put the skids under the Wellington innings with 4-18 in eight overs as the score dipped to 128-8, but Luke Desave with 47no and Rob Moysey with 28no added a bright unbroken ninth wicket stand of 57 that saw that Minehead not add to their bowling tally.
