Lympsham and Belvedere 204-3 Wellington 199
A Wellington pre-season side travelled to Somerset League Division Two club Lympsham and Belvedere last Sunday and were involved in a great tussle with the home side who edged out the Red and Blacks by five runs in the last over.
Lympsham and Belvedere opted to bat first and lost just three wickets in their forty overs at the crease as S.Neate with 38 and Nuttycombe with an eventual 81 added 90 first wicket runs for the home side in good style, but they were tested by the new ball pairing of Macaulay Campbell and Tom Shannon.
Rob Moysey’s leg spin realised 2-19 in 8 overs as he showed control at all times in his spell.
M.Hosey with 48no saw that the home side got past 200 all told.
Teenagers Callum Hendy and Nathan Roberts opened up for Wellington and had 54 opening wicket runs on the board with Hendy making a decent 20 with a six before being first out.
Jacob Hurry – another promising teenage player – made a classy 29 in tandem with Roberts who is in really good form so far in 2021 as he hit a fine 69 to put Wellington in a decent place in the game.
Oli Beale added to his good weekend by adding 33 for the fourth wicket with Rob Moysey who made 14.
However the dismissal of Moysey saw the home side grow back into the game as 173-4 became 189-9.
Last wicket pair Tom Shannon and skipper Alex Troake added ten runs for the final wicket to take the game into the last over, but McCrea with 2-19 in 7.2 overs wrapped matters up when he bowled Troake.
There is one more weekend of pre-season action for Wellington at Minehead CC on Saturday 24th April and at Wembdon CC on Sunday 25th April.
