Wellington Under 13s 97 Taunton Deane Under 13s 98-9
Despite a fine knock of 20 and five wickets when the Red and Blacks bowled coming from Will Fewings Wellington Under 13s lost by one wicket at home to their Taunton Deane CC counterparts last Tuesday evening in what was the Club’s last home game of the short 2020 season.
The Deane asked Wellington to bat and saw skipper Tom Hopkins set the pace with a knock of nine, but at 20-3 Wellington were in need of some impetus and it came from Fewings who played another good knock.
Runs from Ashton Howe who hit 16 saw that Wellington got to 97 all out in this third game of their Somerset Cricket Board mandated package which had been due to have been played the week before but was called off due to rain.
An early wicket from Daniel Huntley got Wellington off and running with the ball before Deane found some consolidation, but enter Fewings into the attack taking four wickets in one over with Archie Lyon-Taylor doing his bit too Wellington made a huge dent in the visiting batting line up as they crashed to 64-8, but still with lots of overs available.
Deane built a way back in to the game and with Wellington bowling quite a few wides again they slowly increased their score, there was a fifth wicket for Fewings and Deane had one wicket left and some scrambling about in the dark for byes brought a narrow win for the County Town team; they are due to host Wellington later in the month to complete this cycle of games.
