Wellington Sunday XI 271-3 Wombat Sunday XI 210-7

Wellington Sunday XI made the short visit to Bishops Lydeard on the Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend and were involved in a high scoring game with their hosts, Wombat CC, and were victorious to the tune of 61 runs.

Arron Campbell won the toss and chose to bat first with Oli Beale and Nathan Roberts making a good start for their side with an opening stand of 35.

Roberts and Sammy Broomhead, who the Club are hopeful of joining them full time for 2021, played a fine knock of exactly 50 in a stand of 90 for the second wicket as the young keeper/batsman who plays age group cricket for Devon, played a great knock.

All the time Roberts was working the ball round the wicket and was making his way to a classy 80 before he was out with the score at 243 as Luke Desave with 56 and Des Campbell with 32 played with power and grace to get Wellington to 271 at the break.

A great place to bat is the Wombat track and the home side enjoyed themselves as Wellington had earlier with Chapman making 44, Smith a hard hitting 66 and Hogg a good 49 as Wellington had to work hard for their wickets with Luke Desave taking 3-42 in eight overs to be the most successful as Tyler Fyfe, Oli Beale and Connor Wickenden were successful too.

Wellington Sunday XI are next in action on Sunday 6th September when they travel to West Monkton CC for a non-league game which begins at 1.30pm
