Wellington Under 13s 130-3 Minehead Under 13s 131-8

Wellington Under 13s hosted their Minehead counterparts in the first of a package of four games last Thursday evening (30th July) when they took part in a Somerset Cricket Board organised event that will offer them some play having seen the Taunton and District Youth League Season for 2020 get wiped out through COVID19.

Minehead asked Wellington to bat first and this saw Will Crossley and Fin Hope add a decent opening stand of 12 with the former making seven and the latter nine.

Skipper Tom Hopkins struck a pleasing 19 and then gave way to excellent play from each of Jude Wickramashinghe and Will Fewings who both reached the retiring mark of 25 and the innings was ended by Ashton Howe and Tim Vellacott making 10no and 11no respectively.

Minehead would need 131 to win in 20 overs.

L.Goodrum with 31 retired as he made runs in good time and style as did J.Hopkins with 23, but with wickets coming the way of Will Fewings, Matthias Richardson, Tim Vellacott, Fin Chant and Fin Hope Wellington had tied down their visitors, but too many wides were conceded and this gave Minehead a continuing chance in the game all the same.

The last over came to pass with nine needed to win for the Seasiders,  but a loss of direction saw the visitors just creep over the line as two wides sealed the deal.

Next up for the Red and Blacks is a game at Taunton St Andrews CC on Friday 7th August from 6.00pm…
