Wellington Sunday XI had the chance to take first use of a great batting pitch at Bishops Lydeard last weekend and made a fine total in their 40 overs as the sun shone in this non-league fixture with Wombats CC.
On winning the toss Wellington elected to bat first and saw Luke Desave and Oli Beale get away to a 38 run opening stand.
From this point Desave was joined by his skipper Macaulay Campbell and they added 103 for the second wicket as Desave crashed 89 before been second out as he used the great batting conditions to the full.
Jack Beal with 10 and Ben Evett with 26 aided their skipper who totalled a fine 63 all told before been fifth out with the score at 225.
Tom Shannon’s 11 and Alex Derbridge’s 14 kept the scoreboard ticking over and it was Arron Campbell’s 25no that took Wellington to a fine total of 289-8 in 40 overs at tea.
For Wombats M.Steedman with 3-28 was their most successful bowler.
Arron Campbell and Ben Evett took the new ball for Wellington and reduced Wombats to 26-3, but the home side rallied as E.Steedman with 15 steadied things.
Batten with 43 played a good hand, but Rob Moysey’s leg spinners got him in the end as he took 2-28 in 8 overs.
Wombats skipper York-Smith with a fine 74no saw his side got to within 100 runs of their target as Will Derrick and Alex Derbridge both collected late wickets for the Red and Blacks.
