Wellington 154 North Petherton 155-2
Wellington have achieved a fine fifth place finish in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League after securing promotion to this level this time last season and see that eight wins and over 200 points have been achieved and recorded in 2019.
Three points were needed on paper to be sure of survival, but Yeovil’s loss at Chard rendered this meaningless and it is Yeovil, Taunton Deane 2nd XI and North Petherton who will return to the Somerset League for 2020 as the geographical requirements for WEPL at this time as they set up for next season need to see three teams leave the division for the County League’s top level with two coming up from this section.
As for the game itself it saw already-relegated home team Petherton win the toss and ask Wellington to bat.
After two wickets had been lost for 23 runs Tom Chambers and Neil Hendy played well to take the score into the 60s as Chambers struck a fine 45 for his side.
Hendy made a capital 33 as he was supported by Ollie Wilkins with 13, Luke Desave with 23 and Ben Evett with 10 took Wellington to 154 all out in 48 overs and two batting points were secured as a result.
Petherton’s overseas player Asif with 4-24 in ten overs was in good form with the ball for the home side.
Luke Desave and Will Derrick with a wicket each saw Petherton fall to 27-2, but an unbroken stand for the third wicket of 128 between Asif (69no) and Bowditch (51no) saw their side home with no further loss.
Add in some some stellar T20 performances too in 2019 overall it has been a good season for the side.
