Wellington 159 Taunton Deane 2nd XI 89
Wellington have a 29 point advantage in the West of England Premier League’s Somerset Division over the likely top part of the projected relegation zone following this fine win on the road to Taunton Deane 2nd XI last weekend and with two games to go the team will be looking to go out with a strong finish to end their 2019 campaign.
Choosing to bat on winning the toss Wellington batted solidly in making 159 in 49.3 overs with Sam Whitefield and Nathan Roberts constructing a good start to the Red and Blacks innings as they added 32 opening wicket runs.
With another wicket been lost at 34 this brought skipper Arron Campbell to the crease and he joined Whitefield to take the score to 79 with Campbell making a decent 25.
All the time Whitefield was playing well and he made it to a capital 60 before been seventh out at 117.
Late runs from Jack Beal and Will Derrick who each hit 12 took the final Wellington score to 159 with three balls going unused as Macfarlane with 3-18 in 10 good overs of left arm spin was Deane’s most successful bowler.
Wellington were in roaring form with the ball when it came to defending the runs that they had made before tea as vice captain Luke Desave was in brutal mood taking 6-23 in ten successive overs as bottom side Deane 2nd XI slumped to 49-7 with Will Derrick giving great support with 1-16 in seven overs.
The home side recovered somewhat to get to 84-7 as former Ashbrittle player Luke Williams made a fighting 33, but Arron Campbell mopped up the tail and with Rob Moysey making a run out come about the job was done and 19 very useful points had been secured with Aks Latifi’s keeping and the catching efforts of both Jack Derrick and Luke Desave playing crucial parts in this success.
