Horrington 195-6 Wellington 2nd XI 163

This was a more robust batting effort from Wellington 2nd XI in Division Five of the Somerset League, but the Red and Blacks second string lost by 32 runs to Horrington at home last weekend.

On winning the toss the visitors were asked to bat first and a decent start was made when Trevor Brooks caught Fear off of Jake Nichol.

That was the only success for some time as Draper and Wood added 109 for the second wicket.

They made 53 and 61 respectively and this was the bulk of the Horrington total.

Spin was to the fore in the Wellington attack as Connor Wickenden’s left armers took a decent 3-43 in nine overs and Trevor Brooks with 2-22 in seven overs was effective too as Wellington would need 196 after tea.

Trevor Brooks and Simon Burrough started well with a 47 run opening stand that was broken when Burrough was out for 11.

Brooks made it to 38 before been caught and bowled by J.Lane-Sellars.

Richard Henwood with 16 was getting going but was caught when looking set.

Gus Steele suffered from two bouts of cramp that affected his innings of 16 made in two parts and he played well given this issue.

Ryan Henwood struck a crisp 23 before Howlett with 3-23 in 8.4 overs bowled him.

From then on Jake Nichol and David Derrick added 20 sixth wicket runs with Nichol making 14.

Tom Shannon and Connor Wickenden added a useful 28 eighth wicket runs that collected an eighth batting point, but the end came with eight balls going unused and so 14 points came Wellington’s way and they stay in ninth place 69 points ahead of their opponents in this game.
