Wellington 2nd XI 86 Wedmore 90-4
Wellington 2nd XI had another tough game in Division Five of the Somerset League at Wedmore last time out and the hosts went to second in the table after this six wicket win.
Losing the toss saw the Red and Blacks second string been asked to bat first and this saw Trevor Brooks and Mark Salter add 12 for the opening wicket.
On this stand been broken Oli Beale joined Salter and Beale made 10 before he was second out with the score on 37.
Wickets fell often and when Salter was out with the score on 71 for a well made 36 it was not long before all resources had been used up although Charlie Hawkings and Alex Troake did add 12 for their team’s last wicket.
For Wedmore Major with three wickets and J.Burgess with four did the damage.
Gus Steele’s seam and Oli Beale’s leg spin took the new ball for Wellington and this pair along with Alex Troake providing more leg spin and Jake Nichol providing more seam did remove four of the Wedmore line up, but they did as required with home skipper Halford’s 23 been the highest of a clutch of solid scores that saw them over the line to leave Wellington’s reserve side in ninth place with three to play.
