Wellington 183-7 Bridgwater 2nd XI 160-9
Wellington have opened up what could be a crucial gap of fourteen points if three teams are dispensed with in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League at the end of the season having seen off Bridgwater 2nd XI at home last weekend when the rain and the wind had a profound effect on play, but with 17 points claimed second place is only 27 points away with three to play.
Wellington lost the toss and were asked to bat first and saw Sam Whitefield and Nathan Roberts react very well indeed as they added 78 runs first up with Roberts making a fine 29 as he batted with attention to the task in hand.
Whitefield provided the runs early on for the Red and Blacks as he hit 53 with two sixes to be fourth out with the score on 110.
Wellington did lose two more wickets not long after so as to be 127-6, but Luke Desave with 37 was supported well by Rob Moysey and Jack Derrick to get the final total to 183-7 in the 42 overs that were on offer given the interruptions endured.
Habberfield with 3-34 in nine overs was in good form for Bridgwater.
Bridgwater started their reply well enough through Pople and Kitch, but when Arron Campbell took a good slip catch to see the back of Kitch off of Luke Desave (8-4-11-3) the visitors fell away to 54-5 as Rob Moysey got in the wicket taking routine with an eventual analysis of 8-2-17-3.
B.Vickery with 47 did all he could to get Bridgwater’s reserves going again, but the rate was just too much in the end although Pope with 24 and Windsor with 20 gave it a go as Wellington ended the game as 19 run victors under the DLS method with Jack Beal and Will Derrick taking late wickets.
