Wellington 3rd XI 180-6 Castle Cary 2nd XI 151
Wellington 3rd XI collected a vital Somerset League Division Seven South win when they were triumphant having made the long journey to Castle Cary 2nd XI last weekend and came away with 34 points to stay ninth, but to be within 13 points of seventh placed Middlezoy 2nd XI who the Red and Blacks third string take on in August.
Been put into bat has become a recent occurrance for the side and this was the case once more, but Trevor Brooks and Simon Burrough got their side away well with 23 runs for the opening wicket.
Burrough was bowled for 15, but this saw Andy Hurry join Brooks and they added 115 for the second wicket and this was joy to watch as Hurry cracked a crisp 62.
Brooks batted through the 40 overs on offer and added good runs late on with Ryan Henwood who made a responsible 14 in a 30 run fifth wicket stand with bat carrier Brooks who made 56no and it was he and David Derrick who were at the crease at the of the Wellington innings.
Hewlett with 3-27 in seven overs was on target for Cary 2nd XI who are in mid table at this time.
A delightful slip catch by Trevor Brooks to see off Clulee started the Cary innings as Tom Shannon struck as early as you possibly can and when Ryan Henwood saw his dad Richard, captaining Wellington on the day, take a fine boundary catch to see off Collings who had used the long handle approach from the off Cary were in trouble.
Wadman with 29, Coubrough with 32 and Kinghan with 34 played well in the Cary middle order and took the score to 131-5 when skipper Wadman was out, well stumped by Jacob Hurry off of the off spin of Trevor Brooks and this saw the home side collapse from a position of comfort.
Tom Shannon and Ryan Henwood struck in their second spells, Brooks took another wicket and Andy Hurry ended matters to give Wellington a 29 run win with some great catches been on show too as Simon Burrough and Ben Wardell amongst others demonstrated.
